Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential public safety technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their London-based engineering team. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of a mission-critical alerting platform that ensures the right people receive the right information at the right time.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Leading engineering architecture design reviews and setting a high technical bar through code and design reviews
• Building highly available services that meet strict availability and latency requirements in a mission-critical environment
• Designing and delivering systems that ingest events from diverse device sources, enrich data with metadata, apply notification rules, and deliver alerts across multiple channels
• Mentoring and guiding other engineers on the team to elevate overall technical excellence
• Collaborating across Product, Design, and Engineering teams to create integrated solutions
• Improving engineering processes including architectural planning, sprint planning, and stand-ups
• Enhancing operational excellence through improved metrics, dashboards, observability, and responding to production issues while preventing recurrence
• Working with modern cloud-based and open source technologies

This is a hybrid position based in London, with in-office work Tuesday through Friday and remote work on Mondays.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Proven experience designing and delivering highly available, scalable cloud-based systems
• Strong backend service experience in multiple managed languages such as Java, Scala, Go, C#, or similar
• Experience working with SQL or NoSQL data stores, queue services, cache services, and gateway services
• A passion for staying current with software engineering trends and open source technologies, with the ability to distinguish promising practices from overhyped trends
• A customer-focused mindset and enthusiasm for tackling novel technical challenges
