Senior Applied AI Engineer, AI Platform (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization building infrastructure for private markets operations. They are seeking a Senior Applied AI Engineer to join their AI Platform team in Berlin. This is a production-focused role where you'll take AI capabilities from functional prototypes to mission-critical systems that handle real fund operations—processing documents, automating workflows, and ensuring accuracy where investor money is on the line.

This is end-to-end product engineering: you'll own architecture, evaluation, integration, and deployment of AI agents that automate complex operational workflows. You'll build the platform and patterns that enable teams across the organization to ship AI-powered features with confidence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship AI agents that automate fund-operations workflows, owning them from prototype through production deployment and ongoing maintenance
• Develop comprehensive evaluation systems including test cases from real documents, regression suites in CI, human review workflows, and clear success criteria for complex agent tasks
• Own the AI application architecture: orchestration, multi-agent design, tool contracts, memory systems, and context engineering with appropriate guardrails and human-in-the-loop controls
• Implement production-grade deployments with versioned rollouts, feature flags, rate limits, provider fallback, regional failover, and full observability across services
• Build platform capabilities that other engineering teams can consume, consolidating document parsing and shared evaluation infrastructure
• Set technical patterns and standards for agent development, partnering with developer experience teams and mentoring engineers across the organization
• Improve agent performance metrics that matter: accuracy, latency, and cost optimization

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years building production software, including at least one agent or LLM-powered capability you owned end-to-end in a live production environment
• Deep expertise in agent orchestration and context engineering: tool contracts, memory systems, RAG, multi-agent design using frameworks like Mastra, ai-sdk, or LangGraph
• Proven ability to integrate agents into real products with proper authorization models—not just standalone prototypes
• Strong evaluation skills: building measurable systems for non-deterministic capabilities, creating test cases from real data, implementing regression suites, and distinguishing genuine model improvements from benchmark inflation
• Production ownership mindset: reading traces, diagnosing failures, tuning cost and latency, handling provider rate limits and fallback strategies
• Backend experience with TypeScript and/or Python
• Platform engineering approach: building for other engineers with standards that earn adoption through trust and quality
• Pragmatic decision-making: starting from business outcomes, choosing deterministic solutions when appropriate, knowing when good enough is good enough
• Bonus: experience in fintech, private markets, or regulated document-heavy domains; familiarity with EU data-residency requirements

Technical environment includes: TypeScript, Node.js, Nest.js, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Mastra, Vercel ai-sdk, Google Vertex, AWS Bedrock, Kubernetes, Datadog

Location: Berlin, hybrid setup (3 days per week in office) with up to 6 remote calendar weeks per year
