Senior Engineering Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead engineering teams in Bordeaux, France. Our client operates in the e-commerce platform space, enabling businesses to connect sellers with marketplaces and manage multi-channel commerce at scale.

This is a leadership role overseeing approximately 12 engineers across two squads focused on seller experience and marketplace integrations. You'll work with distributed teams and international stakeholders, splitting your time between Paris/Bordeaux offices with one remote day per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop two engineering squads responsible for seller journey features and integrations with external marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart, and Zalando
• Partner with Product and Design teams to define priorities, translate business requirements into execution plans, and balance delivery speed with technical quality
• Drive technical direction across your scope, challenging architectural decisions and ensuring scalable, maintainable solutions
• Establish best practices in testing, observability, and incident management
• Coach engineers and tech leads, conduct performance reviews, identify growth opportunities, and contribute to talent acquisition
• Build effective operating models that protect team focus, foster ownership, and enable collaboration across distributed teams and time zones

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• At least 4-5 years managing engineering teams, with proven experience leading teams of 5-6+ engineers, ideally across multiple squads
• Background in e-commerce, marketplaces, channel management, feed management, catalog or order management, or closely related domains
• Solid Java engineering background with the depth to challenge architectural decisions and assess technical trade-offs
• Track record delivering in fast-moving environments while maintaining team focus and adapting management approaches
• Experience collaborating with international, cross-functional stakeholders across time zones

Technical Skills:

• Strong Java expertise (recent versions)
• Familiarity with Spring Framework, SQL, cloud platforms, and microservices architecture
• Ability to engage in architecture discussions and guide engineers on complex distributed systems

Leadership Capabilities:

• Setting direction, delegating effectively, and developing people at all levels
• Managing delivery, priorities, and trade-offs across multiple teams simultaneously
• Technical judgment to guide complex integration design choices

Language Requirements:

• Fluent English (mandatory) — approximately 50% of working time will be in English
• Full professional proficiency in French
