Senior Engineering Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization operating in the e-commerce platform sector. Our client is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead critical engineering squads in Paris, France. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll guide approximately 12 engineers across two squads focused on seller experience and marketplace integrations.

In this position, you'll directly impact how sellers and brands connect and operate across multiple e-commerce channels worldwide. You'll partner closely with Product and Design leadership while maintaining technical credibility with your Java engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop two engineering squads responsible for seller journey experiences and integrations with external marketplaces (Amazon, Walmart, Zalando, and similar platforms)
• Partner with Product and Design to define priorities, translate business requirements into execution plans, and balance delivery speed with quality and technical sustainability
• Drive technical direction across your scope—challenging architectural choices, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutions, and establishing best practices in testing, observability, and incident management
• Coach engineers and tech leads, identify growth opportunities, conduct performance and career conversations, and contribute to talent attraction
• Build effective operating models for distributed teams, protecting team focus, fostering ownership, and enabling collaboration with international stakeholders
• Manage delivery, priorities, and trade-offs across multiple teams simultaneously in a fast-moving environment

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• At least 4 to 5 years managing engineering teams, with a track record leading teams of 5 to 6 engineers or more, ideally across multiple squads
• Proven experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, channel management, feed management, catalog or order management, or closely related domains
• Solid Java background—you should have the depth to challenge architectural decisions, assess technical trade-offs, and manage Java engineers with credibility (hands-on coding not required)
• Demonstrated ability to deliver in demanding, fast-moving environments while adapting management approach to context
• Experience collaborating with international and cross-functional stakeholders across time zones

Essential Skills:

• Engineering leadership: ability to set direction, delegate effectively, and develop people at all levels
• Execution in complexity: capable of managing delivery across multiple teams
• Technical judgment: able to engage in Java architecture discussions and guide engineers on complex distributed systems
• Fluent English and French (full professional proficiency)—approximately 50% of working time will be in English with US-based and international partners

Location: Based in Paris or Bordeaux office with one day of remote work per week
