About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential clean energy organization in their search for a Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs. This role offers the opportunity to shape energy policy at the federal, state, and wholesale market level while advocating for distributed energy resources and innovative technologies that support grid modernization.
The position is fully remote within the United States, with moderate travel expected (up to 20%). You'll work closely with senior leadership initially, with the opportunity to take on increasingly independent responsibility as you master the business and regulatory landscape.
Responsibilities
- Intervene in state regulatory proceedings by drafting comments and advocacy pleadings that support organizational positions
- Advocate before state commission staff, stakeholders, ISO/RTO stakeholder committees, and federal regulators
- Track regulatory initiatives including rulemakings and proposed tariff changes across 2-3 wholesale electric markets
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and identify opportunities to advance business interests
- Coordinate with energy markets teams on advocacy and regulatory policy work in wholesale markets and at the state level
- Determine courses of action independently or through trade associations to influence policy initiatives
- Serve as a public spokesperson by participating in stakeholder meetings, drafting regulatory filings, and meeting with commissioners and RTO officials
- Build deep organizational knowledge by collaborating across energy markets, operations, engineering, sales, and finance functions
- Cultivate relationships with regulatory commissioners, federal agencies, state energy officials, legislators, ISO/RTOs, environmental groups, and trade associations
- After an initial onboarding period of 3-6 months, manage regulatory portfolio with limited oversight
What We're Looking For
- 4-5 years of experience in energy policy or regulation with demonstrated success in direct advocacy
- JD (strongly preferred) or other graduate degree required
- Exceptional writing skills with ability to draft regulatory filings, comments, and pleadings independently
- Strong oral communication and relationship-building capabilities for working with industry partners and stakeholders
- Excellent project management skills with ability to efficiently allocate resources and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to synthesize knowledge across engineering, energy markets, and finance into clear, concise communications
- Comfort with measurable performance metrics and results-driven accountability
- Intellectual curiosity and creative problem-solving approach
- Self-motivated yet collaborative work style suited to a fast-paced virtual environment
- Deep interest in or existing knowledge of energy markets and clean energy policy
- Strong advocacy skills with ability to deploy appropriate tactics in different situations
Important: Please submit a writing sample with your application—ideally comments or pleadings filed with a state commission, FERC, or an ISO/RTO. Alternative professional writing samples are acceptable if regulatory filings are not available.
Work Authorization: At this time, visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
