About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential travel technology organization that is building the next generation of corporate travel solutions. Our client operates at significant scale, processing billions of search queries and helping travelers worldwide navigate complex booking decisions. They are expanding their engineering presence in Berlin and need an experienced engineering leader to help shape their growing technical teams.

As Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead one or more agile engineering teams responsible for delivering high-quality software that simplifies business travel. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance technical strategy, team development, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll be instrumental in building engineering culture while driving measurable business outcomes through your teams.

This position requires working from the Berlin office at least three days per week.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery for one or more agile engineering teams, ensuring consistent shipment of high-quality software aligned with product and business objectives
• Define and drive the technical roadmap for your team's domain in collaboration with product managers and peer engineering leaders
• Design and enforce engineering best practices including coding standards, testing strategies, observability, and clear Definition of Done criteria
• Lead hiring and performance management for software engineers, owning the full employee lifecycle from sourcing through career development and promotions
• Coach and develop engineers at all levels through regular one-on-ones, structured feedback, and deliberate career conversations
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and peer engineering managers to plan and deliver complex, multi-team initiatives
• Identify and remove delivery risks proactively, driving improvements to keep teams operating at high velocity
• Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement through practices like blameless post-mortems and structured incident response
• Influence technical architecture by participating in design reviews and guiding decisions for scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Help build and shape the engineering presence in Berlin, contributing to talent acquisition, onboarding, and team culture

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years leading engineering teams within the travel industry, focused on supplier integrations (flights, hotels, trains using Direct APIs, GDS, NDC) or managing teams executing large-scale third-party content integrations
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in engineering leadership or management roles directly managing software engineers
• Proven track record of ownership and innovation within data-driven, results-oriented environments
• Experience steering organizational transformation, maximizing gains from agile methodologies, and fostering process optimization
• Strong technical fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, and backend service architecture
• Demonstrated experience owning the full people management lifecycle with genuine commitment to developing engineering talent
• Experience coaching engineers at multiple levels, including senior engineers and emerging technical leads
• Solid understanding of agile delivery methodologies and software development lifecycle, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability practices
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to articulate technical vision to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English
• Hands-on experience with modern development tooling including version control, issue tracking, and observability platforms
• Comfort working in distributed, multilingual engineering organizations across multiple time zones
• Degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
