Interim Einkaufsleitung / Senior Procurement Manager (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential recruiting firm seeking experienced Interim Procurement Managers for placements with mid-market clients across Germany. In these roles, you will take operational responsibility for procurement and supply chain functions during transformation, performance improvement, and turnaround situations.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading procurement operations and taking full accountability for purchasing functions during critical business situations
• Analyzing spend data, category structures, supplier portfolios, and procurement costs
• Identifying and realizing concrete cost savings and performance improvement opportunities
• Preparing and conducting complex supplier and contract negotiations
• Developing and implementing category strategies and procurement frameworks
• Optimizing payment terms, inventory levels, and other working capital levers
• Stabilizing critical supplier relationships and ensuring continuity of supply
• Improving procurement organization, processes, and responsibilities
• Building transparency around pricing, volumes, terms, and savings initiatives
• Tracking and monitoring agreed measures and deliverables
• Collaborating closely with operations, finance, supply chain, and executive leadership

What We're Looking For

We need seasoned procurement leaders who can deliver measurable results, not just develop concepts. The ideal candidate brings:

• Multiple years of operational experience as Head of Procurement, Purchasing Director, or Senior Procurement Manager with direct responsibility
• Proven experience within German mid-market companies
• Documented success with cost savings programs, supplier negotiations, and procurement optimization
• Strong understanding of cost structures, working capital, and financial levers in procurement
• Experience in transformation, performance improvement, or restructuring situations is highly advantageous
• High analytical capability combined with a strong hands-on mentality
• Experience in manufacturing or industrial companies preferred
• Proficiency with relevant ERP, procurement, and analytics tools
• Willingness to maintain substantial on-site presence at client locations
• Native-level German and strong English language skills
• Project-based availability as an independent interim manager
• Current availability, day rate expectations, and travel flexibility
• 2-3 reference engagements demonstrating concrete procurement and financial improvements
