Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading on-demand marketplace platform in London that operates at significant scale across multiple countries. Our client is seeking a Software Engineer to join their engineering organization and contribute to building resilient, high-performance systems that power real-time logistics and marketplace operations.

This is a hybrid role based in London, typically requiring 3 days per week in the office. You'll work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team tackling complex technical challenges across a three-sided marketplace serving millions of users daily.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale backend services for real-time marketplace systems using languages such as Go, Ruby, or Python
• Improve code structure and architecture by participating in technical discussions and conducting code reviews
• Enhance system reliability through visibility, monitoring, and maintaining the overall health of production systems
• Collaborate across teams to identify integration opportunities and influence technical roadmaps within your domain
• Participate in the hiring process by conducting engineering interviews and supporting peer development
• Ship, test, and iterate on features quickly in a high-ownership environment

What We're Looking For

• Strong focus on readable, well-designed, and well-tested software with an eye toward long-term maintainability
• Experience writing web-based applications in modern languages such as Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, or Rust
• Solid understanding of relational databases including PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Familiarity with web architecture at scale, ideally in high-traffic environments handling 20k+ requests per minute
• Exposure to NoSQL data backends or caching layers like Redis, DynamoDB, or ElasticSearch
• Problem-solving mindset, particularly when applied to complex logistical or marketplace challenges
• Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a low-hierarchy, fast-paced environment
