About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential global travel technology company seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Business Intelligence team in Berlin. This role requires working from the office 3 days per week.

Our client operates at significant scale, processing billions of queries and building the data infrastructure that serves as the single source of truth for business-critical reporting, billing, and company-wide analytics. Responsibilities

• Develop and monitor robust data pipelines using Python, SQL, and orchestration tools like Rundeck or Airflow to handle large-scale data volumes with high reliability
• Design performant data models and optimize complex SQL queries for high-scale environments
• Build automated checks and alerts to ensure data reliability, keeping financial and operational reports accurate
• Automate repetitive tasks and build self-service tools to increase data accessibility across teams
• Experiment with and leverage AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to translate business requirements into practical, maintainable technical solutions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years of proven experience in data engineering or analytics engineering within a data-centric environment
• Experience owning end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion through transformation, testing, and monitoring
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with distributed, columnar, or OLAP systems such as Redshift, Trino, or Vertica, plus relational databases like MySQL or Postgres
• Proficiency in Python with a software-engineering approach to building testable, maintainable code
• Experience with workflow orchestration and containerization tools such as Airflow and Docker
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for investigating data issues
• Strong written and spoken English for effective cross-team communication

Nice-to-have experience:

• Stream processing or real-time systems such as Kafka or Flink
• Modern BI tooling like Looker or Superset
• CI/CD and deployment automation using tools like GitHub Actions
• Web frameworks for internal tools such as Django or Flask

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive with the Berlin market for senior data engineering roles.
