About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential travel technology organization that is building the next generation of corporate travel solutions. They are expanding their engineering hub in Berlin and seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead agile teams delivering high-impact software for business travelers and travel managers worldwide.

This is a hybrid role requiring at least 3 days per week in their Berlin office. You'll own end-to-end delivery for engineering teams, shape technical roadmaps, and play a pivotal role in building out their growing engineering presence in Europe.

Responsibilities

• Lead one or more agile engineering teams, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality software aligned with product and business objectives
• Define and drive the technical roadmap for your team's domain in collaboration with product managers and engineering peers
• Design and enforce engineering best practices including coding standards, testing strategies, observability, and clear quality criteria
• Own the full employee lifecycle for your team: hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and promotions
• Coach and develop engineers at all levels through regular 1:1s, structured feedback, and deliberate career conversations
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and peer engineering managers to deliver complex, multi-team initiatives
• Proactively identify and remove delivery risks—organizational, technical, or process-related—to maintain high team velocity
• Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement, embedding practices like blameless post-mortems and structured incident response
• Influence technical architecture through design reviews, guiding decisions that ensure scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability
• Contribute to building the Berlin engineering hub through talent acquisition, onboarding, and shaping team culture

What We're Looking For

• 1+ years of experience leading engineering teams within the travel industry, specifically focused on supplier integrations (flights, hotels, trains using Direct APIs, GDS, NDC) or managing large-scale third-party content integrations
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in engineering leadership or management roles directly managing software engineers
• Proven track record of ownership and innovation in data-driven, results-oriented environments with ability to rapidly master new business domains
• Experience steering organizational transformation and maximizing gains from agile methodologies
• Strong technical fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, and backend service architecture
• Demonstrated experience with the full people management lifecycle and genuine commitment to developing engineering talent
• Experience coaching engineers at multiple levels, including senior engineers and emerging technical leads
• Solid understanding of agile delivery methodologies and SDLC, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability practices
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to articulate technical vision to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English
• Hands-on experience with modern development tooling (version control, issue tracking, observability platforms) and openness to AI-assisted development tools
• Comfort working in distributed, multilingual engineering organizations across multiple time zones
• Degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
