Greene King is recruiting an experienced Head Chef to lead our kitchen operations at our York, North Yorkshire location. This full-time position invites you to drive culinary excellence and lead a talented kitchen team in a thriving hospitality environment.

Position Summary

As Head Chef at our York establishment, you'll assume full responsibility for kitchen leadership, menu development, and day-to-day operations. You'll manage our kitchen team, maintain rigorous food standards, and deliver exceptional dishes that keep our guests returning. This role sits at the heart of our operation, requiring both culinary expertise and strong people management in a busy, high-volume setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff whilst maintaining a positive, collaborative working culture
  • Plan, prepare, and oversee all menu items, ensuring consistent quality, taste, and presentation
  • Develop and adapt menus to reflect seasonal ingredients, guest preferences, and current dining trends
  • Oversee food purchasing, stock management, and cost control to maximise kitchen efficiency
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety legislation, HACCP procedures, and health and hygiene standards
  • Maintain kitchen equipment, arrange servicing and repairs, and manage supplier relationships
  • Collaborate closely with front-of-house teams to deliver seamless guest experiences

Who We're Looking For

  • Proven Head Chef or Senior Chef experience within high-volume kitchens or hospitality settings
  • Advanced culinary skills with the ability to design, prepare, and refine menus
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing kitchen teams of varying sizes
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations, allergen management, and kitchen best practices
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities under pressure
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or related qualification preferred
  • Passionate about fostering staff development and driving continuous improvement
