UVC Partners: Data & AI – Master Thesis / Internship (f/m/x)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading European early-stage venture capital firm seeking a Master's student or intern to join their specialized Data & AI team. Our client operates at the intersection of applied research and venture capital, building intelligent systems that power investment decision-making across their portfolio.

This is a hands-on research role where you will work alongside investors, AI researchers, and engineers. You will take ownership of a research question from literature review through to working prototype, presenting your findings to decision-makers. This is not a typical internship—you will be treated as a full team member with real responsibility and impact.

Duration: 6 months (Master thesis or internship)

Responsibilities

• Lead a research project from conception to deployment, working on real venture capital intelligence systems
• Develop and prototype solutions in areas such as graph neural networks for relationship analysis, program-aided language models for financial data extraction, or Bayesian updating for dynamic company assessments
• Write clean, production-quality Python code with proper ML and statistical foundations
• Work with proprietary venture data and existing data pipelines to build practical tools
• Present technical findings and prototypes to investment team members
• Collaborate across the broader team on multiple workstreams while maintaining ownership of your core research direction
• Use AI-assisted coding tools critically and responsibly, reviewing all outputs and understanding failure modes

What We're Looking For

• Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field at a top university
• Deep expertise or strong ambition in at least one relevant area: graph ML and graph databases (e.g., PyTorch Geometric), LLM tooling and evaluation, or probabilistic modeling (e.g., PyMC, NumPyro)
• Strong Python programming skills with clean, modular code practices
• Solid machine learning and statistics fundamentals
• Demonstrated ability to work independently—you have led a project where you set the direction yourself
• Fluency in English for technical work, writing, and presentations (German helpful but not required)
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools and critical judgment about their strengths and limitations
• High agency: ability to take rough problem statements, propose approaches, iterate on drafts, and flag blockers proactively

Academic Supervision: The team lead is a PhD candidate and can directly supervise students from certain programs, though you are free to arrange your own supervision. Candidates from all universities are welcome.

Pay
