Staff Software Engineer

ServiceNow is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Engineering, Infrastructure and Operations team in Santa Clara, California. This is a full-time, on-site position for an experienced engineer ready to drive technical strategy and architectural decisions at scale.

Role Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer at ServiceNow in Santa Clara, you'll serve as a technical leader and principal engineer within our infrastructure and operations organization. This role is designed for someone who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, mentoring other engineers, and shaping the long-term technical direction of our platform. You'll own high-impact initiatives that affect our entire engineering organization and contribute to ServiceNow's continued growth and reliability.

What You'll Do

• Design and architect infrastructure solutions that support ServiceNow's platform at scale
• Lead the technical design of systems and services, influencing engineering practices across teams
• Identify and drive resolution of critical technical bottlenecks and architectural gaps
• Partner with other Staff engineers and leadership to define technical roadmaps and strategic initiatives
• Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, raising the technical bar across the organization
• Contribute code and technical documentation that sets standards for quality and maintainability
• Participate in on-call and incident response activities when needed

What You Bring

• Deep expertise in software engineering with 8+ years of professional experience, including several years in senior or lead roles
• Proven track record designing and shipping large-scale distributed systems
• Strong foundational knowledge of infrastructure, cloud platforms, and operational systems
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority
• Experience with systems programming, databases, or performance optimization
• Commitment to code quality, testing practices, and operational excellence
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
