About This Position
As an RN in our hospice program, you'll deliver compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families across Topeka and the surrounding area. This on-call role provides clinical expertise during scheduled shifts, ensuring continuity of care and timely response to patient needs. You'll work autonomously while collaborating closely with our interdisciplinary hospice team—physicians, social workers, chaplains, and nursing assistants—to honor each patient's wishes and dignity. The 7 on, 7 off schedule offers dedicated on-call weeks followed by designated time off, supporting work-life balance in a demanding care environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to hospice patients, focusing on symptom management and comfort
- Assess pain levels, medication effectiveness, and changes in patient condition
- Develop and adjust individualized care plans in consultation with the hospice team
- Educate patients and families about the dying process, advance care planning, and available support
- Respond to urgent patient calls and clinical emergencies during on-call shifts
- Document patient progress, interventions, and responses in medical records
- Coordinate care transitions and communicate updates to team members and family
Who We're Looking For
- Kansas-licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with active, unrestricted license
- Hospice or palliative care experience strongly preferred
- Genuine compassion for patients facing end-of-life care
- Strong communication and teaching skills
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends during on-call weeks
- Sound clinical judgment and ability to work independently
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for in-home visits
