Principal Software Developer (f/m/d) – Market Data

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization based in Frankfurt am Main that is seeking a Principal Software Developer to join their Market Data team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-performance data processing solutions at scale, solving complex engineering challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Our client's Market Data team serves as a critical bridge between business and infrastructure, defining and implementing business processes in data pipelines while monitoring existing services to ensure exceptional service delivery. You'll be working on real-world problems involving highly effective data management, resilience strategies, and fail-over systems where accuracy, performance, and availability are paramount.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement challenging projects to develop and evolve data processing pipelines
• Build a comprehensive data landscape that serves as the single source of truth for all relevant data
• Engineer robust ETL processes that handle multi-asset class data
• Develop high-performance APIs and streaming solutions for clients and data vendors
• Serve as an in-house consultant on best practices for tracking, storing, and accessing data
• Collaborate closely with business analysts and data engineers to create scalable solutions using emerging technologies
• Define new best practices and engineering standards for the team

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of software development or data engineering experience, including at least 5 years of in-depth Python experience
• Strong understanding of microservice architectures, design patterns, Liskov's Substitution Principle, and dynamic dispatch
• Experience with at least one SQL/NoSQL database (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL), including schema definition, evolution, and ORM frameworks such as SQLAlchemy, JPA, or Hibernate
• Cloud-native development experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Ability to define CI/CD build pipelines and perform, validate, and monitor deployments
• Proficiency in defining Docker images according to the Twelve-Factor App methodology
• Strong Git command-line skills and version-control management practices (Gitflow, trunk-based development)
• Technical mentoring skills and ability to guide other developers
• Full professional proficiency in English
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both stakeholders and developers
• Ability to perceive business domains in terms of mathematical structures is highly valued
