Principal Technical Writer – Customer Onboarding

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential search-technology organization seeking a Principal Technical Writer to lead customer onboarding content strategy. You will transform onboarding materials into cohesive, narrative-driven experiences that guide users to their first success milestone. Working closely with self-service and field teams, you'll bridge product, sales, and documentation functions to ensure content drives trial-to-paid conversion.

Your responsibilities include:

• Drive the onboarding content strategy by defining and executing a cohesive narrative for how users learn the platform, ensuring a seamless story from first visit to successful deployment
• Align field, product, and documentation teams as a central point of contact, working with product teams on roadmap changes, field teams on real-world deployment friction points, and documentation teams on content quality
• Design user-focused flows that create organized onboarding experiences highlighting best practices, troubleshooting, and clear next steps while avoiding confusing choose-your-own-adventure approaches
• Measure and iterate using user research, support feedback, and telemetry to identify where users stall, then improve content to reduce churn and accelerate time-to-first-value

What We're Looking For

Our talent team is seeking candidates with:

• 7+ years of relevant experience in technical writing or developer-focused roles, with proven track record in onboarding or user journey design
• Cross-functional leadership demonstrating ability to lead initiatives and influence stakeholders across product, engineering, and sales/field organizations
• Deep narrative skills with experience creating compelling, cohesive stories for complex technical products
• Data-driven mindset comfortable using analytics, UX research, and support data to inform documentation decisions and prioritize work
• Collaborative spirit with experience working in large, distributed organizations where alignment across multiple teams is critical to success
• Customer knowledge including experience with self-service cloud products as user or practitioner, with understanding of how customers onboard, evaluate, and adopt technical tools
