About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential EdTech organization at the forefront of AI-driven workforce transformation. Our client is building production AI systems that fundamentally reshape how organizations operate in the AI era. This is a rare opportunity to join a small, high-velocity team with a mandate to architect and ship agentic platforms that will serve both internal operations and external customers.

As a Staff AI Engineer, you'll own the technical architecture of multi-agent systems from the ground up. This isn't about incremental features—you'll be defining what's possible for human-AI collaboration at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of agentic platforms including multi-agent coordination, orchestration, handoff protocols, task decomposition, and context strategy
• Ship production AI systems end-to-end: design, code, review, and maintain quality standards for what reaches production
• Build evaluation and quality infrastructure including automated eval pipelines, human-in-the-loop review, regression testing for prompt changes, and domain-specific metrics
• Own integration layers: APIs, MCPs, data contracts, and tooling that makes existing systems agent-accessible
• Set technical direction by breaking ambiguous problems into shippable work, making architectural decisions, and establishing production-quality standards through code, documentation, and pairing
• Operate as a technical leader who shapes work for the broader engineering team and raises the bar through code review and collaboration

What We're Looking For

• Production experience shipping multi-agent systems or complex AI products serving real users at scale, with ownership of architecture beyond just implementation
• Deep expertise in context management, model selection and routing, cost engineering, tool use and agent augmentation, multi-agent coordination, and evaluation frameworks
• Technical leadership experience operating as a tech lead: breaking down ambiguous problems, aligning across teams, and elevating engineering standards
• Product mindset with instinct to identify real user pain, build pragmatic high-impact solutions, and iterate rapidly under ambiguity
• Full-stack delivery capability across LLM integration, backend services, data pipelines, and frontend implementation
• Exceptional communication skills: able to explain technical strategy to executives as clearly as trade-offs in code review, and bring stakeholders along on technical journeys
• Fluency in AI-assisted development with ability to define best practices for the team
• Experience building products independently or operating with a founder mindset inside larger organizations

Location and Work Arrangement

This position is based in Edinburgh with a hybrid work model. The team collaborates in office three days per week, with flexibility to work from anywhere up to 10 days per year.
