Trainee Frontend Development (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential digital agency in Berlin seeking a frontend development trainee to join their growing technical team. In this 12-month structured programme, you will work on real client projects from day one under the guidance of an assigned mentor from the frontend team.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Developing components and interfaces for websites, e-commerce platforms, and web applications serving clients across commercial and nonprofit sectors
• Building individual UI components and progressively taking ownership of complete features
• Writing tests and participating in code reviews both as author and reviewer
• Ensuring accessibility compliance and performance optimization as core aspects of your work
• Collaborating within agile project teams alongside backend developers, designers, and project managers
• Working with AI-assisted development tools as a standard part of the workflow, learning to evaluate and refine AI-generated code critically

What We're Looking For

Our client values demonstrable skills over formal credentials. They welcome candidates from diverse educational backgrounds including university programmes, bootcamps, career transitions, or self-taught paths.

Required technical skills:

• Solid understanding of HTML and CSS with attention to semantic markup
• JavaScript fundamentals with genuine comprehension of code behavior, not just syntax
• Initial exposure to React or Vue through coursework, bootcamps, retraining programmes, or personal projects
• Familiarity with TypeScript is beneficial as the client uses a modern stack including React with Next.js or Vue with Nuxt 3

Professional attributes:

• Curiosity about AI development tools combined with critical thinking to validate outputs rather than accepting them uncritically
• Comfort with feedback and willingness to ask questions before encountering blockers
• Very good German language skills for team collaboration
• English reading proficiency for technical documentation

Portfolio materials such as GitHub repositories, side projects, or bootcamp capstone work carry significant weight in the evaluation process.
