Director, UX Research

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential collectibles technology organization in their search for a Director, UX Research. Our client is a leader in authentication and grading services, operating at the intersection of passion communities, e-commerce, and digital innovation. This is a senior leadership role reporting into the Customer Insights function, with responsibility for setting research strategy across a suite of consumer-facing products.

Remote candidates across the United States will be considered, as well as hybrid arrangements for those near Santa Ana, California or Jersey City, New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the UX research roadmap by identifying critical knowledge gaps and prioritizing initiatives that influence company-level decisions
• Partner with Marketing, Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to integrate research insights into strategic planning and decision-making
• Design and execute generative, formative, and summative research using methodologies including ethnography, in-depth interviews, surveys, concept testing, and usability studies
• Lead and mentor a team of user researchers, setting clear direction and maintaining high standards for research quality
• Translate ambiguous problem spaces into actionable research questions and connect findings to product strategy
• Communicate research narratives effectively to audiences ranging from product squads to senior leadership
• Navigate competing priorities and build stakeholder buy-in across the organization

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of user research experience, preferably in consumer technology, collectibles, sports, or fandom-related industries
• 2+ years of people management experience with a track record of coaching researchers to excellence
• Deep expertise across qualitative and quantitative research methods, with demonstrated ability to select the right approach for each business question
• Proven ability to independently moderate interviews and conduct user research
• Strong portfolio of research that has driven measurable business impact
• Strategic mindset with the ability to determine when different data sources and methodologies are needed to build compelling cases
• Exceptional storytelling and presentation skills across all organizational levels
• Collaborative approach with experience building trust and navigating complex stakeholder environments
• Understanding of how AI is transforming research practices, with openness to experimentation while maintaining quality standards

Pay

The client's salary range for this position is $163,308 - $267,038, with actual compensation varying based on location, experience, and skill level. The role may be eligible for bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, 401(k) matching, and flexible time off.
