Data Scientist – Fraud & Payments

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential e-commerce technology organization seeking a talented Data Scientist to join their Fraud, Payments, and Finance team in Manchester. Our client operates at significant scale, protecting global digital commerce operations while optimizing payment performance and driving automation initiatives.

This multi-faceted role combines fraud detection, payment optimization, and finance automation using advanced machine learning techniques and cloud infrastructure. You'll work with complex datasets to build solutions that deliver measurable business impact while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Continuously improve automated fraud detection decision-making using machine learning models and decision rules
• Lead data-driven initiatives to increase payment authorization rates, optimize transaction routing, and reduce processing costs
• Drive automation and profitability initiatives across finance operations
• Report on fraud, payments, and finance performance to stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership
• Collaborate with fraud, payments, finance, and engineering teams to scope and implement system enhancements and data pipeline improvements
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve detection capabilities, increase payment success rates, and enhance team efficiency through automation

What We're Looking For

• Proficient with SQL and Python for data analysis and model development
• Proficient in data visualization software such as Tableau, Looker, or PowerBI
• Experience implementing various machine learning algorithms in production environments
• Strong communication skills with the ability to use data storytelling to drive business change
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform is highly desirable
• Commercial acumen with the ability to translate technical insights into business value
