SME Relationship Services – Associate Director

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential private credit organisation seeking an Associate Director to lead SME borrower relationships across their lending portfolio. In this senior role, you will own client engagement, portfolio performance monitoring, and risk management across debt finance and structured finance portfolios.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Leading relationships with an allocated portfolio of SME borrowers as primary point of contact, conducting quarterly client meetings and reviews
• Owning portfolio compliance including timely collection of management information, covenant testing, annual reviews, and KYC refresh
• Identifying and escalating early warning signs of underperformance, arrears, or covenant pressure through detailed analysis of management accounts
• Leading borrower requests such as covenant resets, waivers, forbearance, restructures, and new money applications
• Drafting high-quality credit papers and presenting recommendations to credit and investment committees
• Negotiating directly with clients to structure balanced, commercially sound outcomes
• Leading deal structuring for modifications and new facilities, including drafting term sheets and coordinating with legal advisers
• Collaborating with portfolio managers on workload prioritisation and delivery, escalating complex matters appropriately

What We're Looking For

Our client requires a highly analytical professional with strong credit assessment capabilities and relationship management experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Strong ability to interpret and analyse company financial statements and management information
• Experience writing and reviewing credit applications from a front-office or credit role
• Financial modelling capabilities
• Experience negotiating with borrowers, structuring transactions, and handling restructures or covenant issues (desirable)
• Knowledge of SME debt finance; experience across wholesale finance or structured finance is advantageous
• Highly numerate and analytical mindset, comfortable dealing with complexity
• Proactive self-starter with strong ownership mentality
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships at all levels
• Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise varied workload with pace and accuracy
• Professional integrity and sound commercial judgement
• Team-oriented approach, contributing beyond individual responsibilities
