Applied Mathematics Specialist – Fully Remote | Upto $90/hr

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI research organization seeking an Applied Mathematics Specialist for a fully remote contract role. In this position, you will:

• Design challenging computational problems to evaluate AI systems' capabilities in solving scientific and engineering tasks
• Develop problems that require skilled application of specialized statistical, mathematical, or scientific software packages
• Test and refine problem sets against state-of-the-art AI models to achieve appropriate difficulty levels
• Collaborate with AI research teams to enhance problem frameworks and solution validation approaches
• Work independently in Linux/terminal environments with remote compute sandboxes

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Graduate-level training in statistics, applied mathematics, or a relevant STEM field
• Proven proficiency with at least one specialized statistical, mathematical, or scientific software package (R, Matlab, Scilab, or similar)
• Strong Python programming skills
• Ability to work independently and refine problem designs based on feedback
• Availability for 15–20 hours per week

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience across multiple computational domains or specialized software packages
• Familiarity with benchmark or evaluation design
• Background in scientific teaching or exam/problem-set creation
• Experience with computational reproducibility and containerized environments
