(Senior) Backend Developer Java (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential procurement software organization based in Paderborn, Germany. We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer with strong Java expertise to join their engineering team and take technical ownership of a cloud-native platform serving enterprise clients.

This role offers the opportunity to work with modern containerized architectures, AI-assisted development tools, and cutting-edge Java frameworks while contributing to a product that serves international markets.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of backend services, independently maintaining, expanding, and improving the platform architecture
• Develop sustainable solutions for complex requirements while ensuring long-term maintainability of the software architecture
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code to streamline development processes and deliver high-quality software
• Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code using current Java versions and modern cloud platforms including Google Container Engine and Google Compute Engine
• Build and implement microservices in containers using Docker and Kubernetes
• Collaborate closely with the Product Owner on feature delivery
• Share knowledge actively within a dynamic team, take initiative, and propose improvements
• Apply pragmatic and careful approaches to ensure code quality, performance, and scalability

What We're Looking For

• Completed degree in Computer Science, apprenticeship as IT Specialist for Application Development, or comparable qualification (career changers with relevant experience welcome)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in backend development
• Excellent skills in backend development with Spring Boot and deep understanding of Java performance and scalability aspects
• Experience with or curiosity about AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or comparable solutions)
• Proven experience developing scalable and secure backend features
• Passion for programming and ability to quickly learn new technologies
• Enthusiasm for agile software development and understanding of principles like Test Driven Development, Code Reviews, and Continuous Delivery
• Fluent German language skills (necessary); good English proficiency in speaking and writing
• Bonus qualifications: Experience with search technologies like Elasticsearch or Solr, processing large datasets, NoSQL databases, or Identity & Access Management (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, SAML, SCIM, Keycloak, Auth0, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID)
