About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI infrastructure client in their search for an AI Forward Deployed Engineer based in London. This is a unique technical role for engineers who thrive at the intersection of deep systems work and high-stakes customer delivery.

You will own the technical success of strategic deployments end-to-end. You'll embed with a small number of accounts, write code in their environments, and remove every obstacle between proof-of-concept and production—whether that's capacity planning, model selection, integration challenges, latency optimization, or cost engineering. You'll scope complex deals before contracts are signed, then deliver exactly what you scoped.

This role is ideal for engineers with a founder or technical co-founder mindset who genuinely enjoy customer-facing work and possess the ability to reason from first principles when faced with unfamiliar problems.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical outcome of customer deployments from architecture through production launch
• Design, scope, and execute proof-of-value pilots inside customer environments with clear success metrics
• Serve as the technical owner on complex pre-signature deals involving dedicated deployments, bring-your-own-cloud setups, and compliance-sensitive architectures
• Diagnose and resolve capacity, performance, integration, and model selection challenges, coordinating with internal specialists as needed
• Guide customers to optimal models, deployment configurations, and optimization strategies including quantization, speculative decoding, and fine-tuning handoffs
• Provide structured, prioritized feedback from field deployments to inform product and engineering roadmaps

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• First principles thinking and critical reasoning ability—you can decompose novel problems and build solutions without reference implementations; this is the primary interview signal and can outweigh other gaps
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
• 3+ years as a software engineer with depth in backend systems and infrastructure
• Strong coding skills in Python and at least one systems language; comfortable shipping code in unfamiliar codebases and customer environments
• Fluency with AI-assisted and agentic engineering tools—you actively use coding agents and understand when to trust the output and when not to
• Working knowledge of modern generative AI: inference, serving architectures, and tradeoffs across models and deployment patterns
• Demonstrated ability to own ambiguous technical problems under time pressure and drive them to resolution
• Genuine interest in customer-facing work and strong communication skills with senior technical stakeholders

Preferred:

• Founder or founding engineer experience, particularly as a technical co-founder or early CTO
• Experience with GPU infrastructure, distributed serving systems, or performance engineering
• Prior forward deployed engineering, solutions architecture, or professional services experience at a technical product company
• Startup or fast-paced environment background
