Principal (European Competition practice)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading economic consulting firm seeking a Principal for their European Competition practice in London. Our client specializes in providing sophisticated economic analysis on competition policy, regulatory matters, and antitrust proceedings across Europe. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on high-profile merger control cases, cartel investigations, abuse of dominance matters, and state aid proceedings alongside respected academics and industry experts.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary point of contact for clients, working closely with legal teams and regulatory bodies on complex competition and antitrust matters
• Develop and present expert reports, economic analyses, and recommendations to clients and regulatory authorities
• Design and execute sophisticated economic and financial models using tools such as merger simulation, econometrics, game theory, and bargaining theory
• Manage research processes across multiple engagements, ensuring integrity and accuracy of all analyses
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior analysts and associates
• Support expert witnesses in judicial proceedings before major competition authorities
• Contribute to firm development through recruiting, training, and internal leadership activities
• Analyze third-party financial, market, and industry data to support case strategies

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree or PhD in Economics or another quantitative discipline with strong academic achievement
• 7-11 years of relevant experience, preferably in economics or antitrust consulting
• Deep understanding of economic concepts, competition law, and regulatory frameworks
• Proven expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis methods
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills with ability to explain complex economic concepts clearly
• Demonstrated experience managing and developing teams
• Executive-level client presence and relationship management capabilities
• Experience with merger control proceedings, cartel investigations, or abuse of dominance cases strongly preferred
