Academic Research to UX Research Career Changer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential organization that sponsors talented career changers and recent graduates who want to transition into user experience fields. This is a remote, 7-month structured learning opportunity designed for individuals with academic research backgrounds who want to apply their analytical skills to UX research, product design, or service design.

Our talent team works with programs that prioritize diversity and inclusion, helping women, immigrants, people of color, and LGBTQ professionals break into the tech industry. This particular opportunity provides mentorship and hands-on project experience at no cost to participants.

What You'll Learn and Accomplish

• Lead the complete end-to-end design process for a digital product or service from concept to prototype
• Conduct discovery research including user recruitment, research planning, interview guide creation, and synthesizing insights from 8-16 user interviews
• Develop user personas, journey maps, stakeholder maps, service blueprints, and process maps
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and design systems with original branding and style guides
• Lead usability testing sessions and iterate on designs based on user feedback
• Perform competitive analysis to identify product differentiators and market positioning
• Build business models and demonstrate product scalability
• Deliver compelling UX and business presentations using qualitative and quantitative data
• Consult on real projects by scoping work and delivering research and design solutions

What We're Looking For

• Interest in creative tech career paths in UX research, UX design, product design, or service design
• Ability to commit 5-10 hours per week to program deliverables over a 7-month period
• Willingness to attend weekend lectures (2-3 hours) or complete online video modules
• Openness to feedback from mentors and a demonstrated willingness to revise your work
• No prior UX experience, resume, or portfolio required—this program welcomes complete beginners
• Academic research background or transferable analytical skills

Pay

This is an unpaid apprenticeship program provided at no cost to participants. The value is in the mentorship, portfolio development, and career transition support that prepares you for six-figure UX roles.
