Delivery Hero is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Backend to join our team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a contract position focused on designing, building, and maintaining the backend infrastructure that powers our platform for millions of users across the region.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Delivery Hero, you'll take ownership of critical backend systems and lead technical initiatives that directly impact our users. You'll work with modern technologies to scale services that handle high transaction volumes, optimize system performance, and establish engineering best practices across the team. This role offers the chance to influence architecture decisions and mentor engineers while solving real-world technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services using modern programming languages and frameworks
- Optimize database performance, API response times, and system reliability
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and data teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
- Review code, provide technical mentoring, and contribute to engineering standards
- Troubleshoot production issues, analyze logs, and implement monitoring solutions
- Participate in architectural planning and technology evaluation for new features
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional backend software development experience
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Java, Python, Go, Node.js, or similar)
- Demonstrated expertise in designing APIs, databases, and distributed systems
- Experience with cloud platforms, containerization, and deployment pipelines
- Solid understanding of software design patterns and system architecture
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in teams
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
