Head of People Operations & Tech

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-scaling workflow automation company in their search for a Head of People Operations & Tech based in Berlin. Our client is a remote-first technology organization experiencing significant growth, currently at around 400 employees and heading toward 500 by year-end. This is a genuine mandate to design and rebuild the operating system behind their People function—not maintain someone else's blueprint.

You'll own hygiene, analytics, systems, and automation for the People function, with a proper audit period before making changes. Since our client builds workflow automation software, you'll use their own product to automate your function—turning your team into a living case study.

Responsibilities

• Own employment contracts, payroll coordination, visas, and employee policies end to end
• Maintain SOC 2-related compliance processes and keep them audit-ready
• Bring centralized ownership to freelancer and contractor engagement approvals
• Build an in-house people analytics capability, turning data into actionable insights for leadership
• Report on People function health to the VP People and wider leadership
• Own and evolve HRIS platforms (HiBob, Mahana), keeping data clean and workflows scalable
• Automate repetitive People Ops work, partnering with workflow automation engineers on complex builds
• Ensure proper documentation and consistent processes before automating
• Act as onboarding liaison for new hires
• Build a small, high-trust team by hiring 2–3 specialists in analytics, automation, and systems over 12–24 months

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

• Proven experience scaling or maturing a People Operations function through comparable growth (e.g., 500 to 1,000 employees)
• Hands-on ownership of contracts, payroll coordination, visas, employee policies, and SOC 2-adjacent compliance
• Strategic mindset combined with willingness to execute hands-on work
• Real experience with people analytics and data; willing to build this capability in-house
• Hands-on work with HRIS platforms like HiBob and process automation in People functions
• Based in Europe
• Track record of running or building this kind of function at least once before
• Strong judgment on sequencing—you know automation requires solid processes and data first

Nice-to-haves:

• Hybrid background coming up through analytics into people ops, or vice versa
• Experience partnering with or managing workflow-automation or AI tooling specialists
• Exposure to compensation benchmarking or market-data analysis
• Experience scaling a People function in a remote-first, distributed organization
