Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential public-sector IT organization seeking a System Engineer to join their Microsoft infrastructure team in Mainz. In this role, you will:

  • Implement, operate, and continuously develop Microsoft-based infrastructure environments
  • Install, configure, administer, and migrate IT systems in production settings
  • Analyze technical requirements and develop appropriate solutions
  • Execute changes, testing cycles, and troubleshooting activities
  • Participate in IT projects and take ownership of technical work packages
  • Optimize existing infrastructures and support the introduction of new technologies
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, concepts, and operational procedures
  • Support rollouts and day-to-day operations
  • Coordinate technical tasks and align with customers, teams, and stakeholders
  • Ensure quality standards, comprehensive documentation, and sustainable operations
  • For senior-level candidates: Design and architect IT solutions and infrastructure frameworks

What We're Looking For

  • Practical to extensive professional experience with Microsoft environments or comparable infrastructure technologies (Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, virtualization)
  • Knowledge of automation and scripting, particularly PowerShell; familiarity with monitoring, backup, and high-availability concepts is advantageous
  • Experience installing, configuring, administering, and operating IT systems
  • Interest in evolving modern Microsoft infrastructures and tackling demanding technical challenges
  • Familiarity with IT processes, ideally ITIL
  • Structured, solution-oriented work style with the ability to handle technical tasks independently
  • Strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for solving complex problems
  • Experience creating technical concepts and documentation
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Very good German language skills and good English proficiency
  • For senior profiles: Experience in complex IT projects, architecture, consulting, or technical project leadership; ability to translate requirements into robust technical solutions and architectures
  • Willingness to undergo security clearance (SÜ2)

Core technologies: Windows Server 2016–2025, Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, PowerShell, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, server operations, virtualization, backup and recovery, monitoring, ITIL, BSI/ISO 27001, 2nd to 3rd-level support, troubleshooting, deployment, patch management, automation, infrastructure design, datacenter architecture, requirements analysis.
