Senior Microsoft SQL Administrator (all genders)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential public-sector organization seeking a Senior Microsoft SQL Administrator to manage and advance critical database platforms within a high-availability data center environment. In this role, you will:

• Administer, configure, and operate Microsoft SQL Server environments
• Manage and develop SQL Server instances including SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
• Execute database migrations and support platform modernization initiatives
• Manage user rights and permissions across the SQL infrastructure
• Plan, execute, and document backup, recovery, and disaster recovery measures
• Support and guide database audits
• Perform database script reviews and controlled execution of production changes
• Conduct error analysis and handle complex issues in 2nd-level support
• Collaborate with vendors during escalations and support cases
• Implement patch and lifecycle management activities
• Analyze database and system loads with continuous performance optimization
• Plan capacity and ensure availability of critical database systems
• Create and maintain operational documentation, manuals, and ITSM documentation
• Document all activities in the ticketing system
• Advise on architecture decisions and support technical planning
• Generate reports and analyses to support operations

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience as an MSSQL Database Administrator
• Minimum 5 years of experience in IT operations or 2nd-level support
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2016, 2019, or newer versions
• Strong proficiency in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Reporting Services (SSRS), and Analysis Services (SSAS)
• Proven experience with database migrations
• Deep understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery
• Expertise in performance and capacity management
• Experience conducting database audits
• Skilled in patch and lifecycle management
• Background in enterprise database environments
• Familiarity with IT service management processes and ticketing systems
• Knowledge of current IT security requirements
• Understanding of data protection regulations
• Fluent German and good English proficiency, both written and spoken

Required Certifications:

• Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) SQL Server 2012 Database Administration or SQL Server 2016 Database Administration, or equivalent current successor certification
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Data Management and Analytics, or equivalent current successor certification

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

• Experience in federal agency or critical infrastructure environments
• Knowledge of high-availability SQL Server architectures including AlwaysOn Availability Groups, clustering, and failover concepts
• Experience with PowerShell automation
• Background in infrastructure and database monitoring
• ITIL certification
• Experience in architecture consulting and technical design projects

Security Requirements:

This position requires security clearance under federal law. Candidates must either hold an existing SÜ2-Geheim clearance or be willing to undergo the clearance process.
