Xpert: Senior Java Developer (Data | AWS) (IT consultant)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology organization that needs a hands-on Backend Software Engineer to support a high-impact engagement focused on data services. You will build reliable backend systems that ingest, transform, and serve large volumes of structured and streaming data.

• Build and maintain backend services on top of a large data platform
• Deliver data workflows for batch and streaming use cases
• Work with AWS services including S3, Redshift, Athena, Kinesis, Glue, Step Functions, Lambda, and SQS
• Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to deliver features
• Document APIs, data models, workflows, and operational procedures

What We're Looking For

• Strong proficiency in Java and SQL (Python familiarity helpful)
• Proven experience with data-intensive systems and large datasets, both batch and streaming
• Hands-on AWS experience with the services listed above
• Strong database capability; PostgreSQL and Redshift experience beneficial
• Clear written communication and documentation skills
• Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar field, or equivalent experience

Engagement Details: This is a remote independent contractor position for South Africa-based candidates only. The contract runs 3–6 months with potential for renewal. Must be able to invoice monthly. Immediate start required with maximum 1 week notice. Hours require a late start and late finish to partly overlap with US time zones.
