Linux Infrastructure Engineer (Bare Metal, Storage & AI Factory Infrastructure)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization in Serbia seeking a highly experienced Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer. This role focuses on designing, deploying, and operating large-scale bare metal infrastructure, enterprise storage systems, and GPU-accelerated AI platforms.

This is not a DevOps role. Our client has a dedicated DevOps team and needs an engineer with deep hands-on experience in bare metal server operations, GPU infrastructure, high-performance storage, and data center environments. You'll work from the hardware layer up—servers, networking, storage, GPU clusters, and AI-ready platforms where performance and reliability are paramount.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage enterprise Linux infrastructure at scale (Ubuntu required; Red Hat and SUSE preferred)
• Operate bare metal server deployments including provisioning, lifecycle management, BIOS/UEFI, RAID controllers, firmware, and hardware diagnostics
• Deploy and manage GPU-accelerated infrastructure for AI/ML workloads including NVIDIA A100, H100, H200, B200 platforms
• Support GPU clusters, DGX systems, and high-performance computing environments with focus on resource allocation, monitoring, and optimization
• Administer enterprise storage systems including Ceph clusters (MON, OSD, MDS, RBD, CephFS), high-performance platforms, NVMe-over-Fabrics, and RDMA
• Manage complex storage configurations: LVM, XFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel SAN, and multipath I/O
• Configure and troubleshoot high-performance data center networking: bonding, VLANs, 100G/200G/400G Ethernet, RoCE, spine-leaf architectures
• Ensure high availability, clustering, disaster recovery, and support mission-critical production environments
• Create operational documentation, runbooks, and infrastructure standards
• Automate operational tasks using Bash and Python scripting

What We're Looking For

Required Skills & Experience:

• Expert-level Linux administration with extensive bare metal infrastructure experience
• Deep knowledge of server hardware: iLO/iDRAC/IPMI, NICs, SmartNICs, HBA cards, hardware troubleshooting
• Experience with Bare Metal as a Service (BMaaS) platforms and large-scale infrastructure environments
• Hands-on experience deploying and managing GPU infrastructure for AI/ML workloads
• Understanding of NVIDIA GPU technologies: CUDA, NCCL, GPUDirect Storage, Fabric Manager, multi-GPU systems
• Strong Ceph experience including cluster architecture, capacity planning, performance tuning, and failure recovery
• Experience with high-performance AI storage platforms and parallel file systems
• Solid networking foundation: routing, DNS, DHCP, MTU optimization, Layer 2/3 design
• Understanding of AI Factory architecture and high-bandwidth, low-latency infrastructure design
• Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, hardware platforms, GPU infrastructure, networking, and storage
• Experience supporting production environments where performance and reliability are critical

Nice to Have:

• Kubernetes infrastructure experience, especially AI/ML and GPU integration
• Virtualization platforms: KVM, VMware, or similar technologies
• Ansible automation experience
• HPC workload schedulers or observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana)
• DCIM tools, IPAM solutions, or hybrid cloud exposure

Not a Good Fit If:

• Your primary experience is CI/CD pipeline engineering, Terraform, or GitOps
• You're a cloud-only administrator with limited bare metal or hardware experience
• Your expertise is primarily software development rather than infrastructure operations
