Technical Project Manager – Software Development (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in Saarbrücken seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead software development operations. In this role, you will own the end-to-end delivery process for Backend and Frontend teams, ensuring reliable execution, clear planning, and continuous process improvement. You will manage Development Leads and engineering teams both functionally and in a disciplinary capacity, serving as the critical bridge between Engineering and Product Management.

This is not a traditional project management position. You will bring deep technical expertise to evaluate architecture decisions, assess technical risks, and guide solution approaches alongside your Development Leads. You will balance immediate delivery with long-term technical health—including maintainability, security, and technical debt—while driving an AI-first development culture across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage operational software development activities, ensuring Backend and Frontend teams deliver reliably with clear focus and realistic timelines
• Lead Development Leads and development teams functionally and disciplinarily, establishing clear responsibilities and developing team members
• Coordinate planning, capacity allocation, dependencies, and releases across the full development lifecycle
• Serve as the primary interface between Engineering and Product Management, translating product requirements into technically sound, executable plans
• Make architecture and design decisions in collaboration with Development Leads, evaluate technical risks, and assess solution approaches
• Maintain focus on long-term technical topics including architecture evolution, maintainability, security standards, and technical debt reduction
• Drive AI-first development practices beyond coding assistance—identifying opportunities to integrate AI into research, architecture, planning, testing, debugging, and documentation processes
• Continuously improve development and project processes, ensuring transparent communication with all stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in or around software development, with hands-on experience as a software developer
• Proven experience leading developers and development teams, including both functional and disciplinary leadership responsibility
• Demonstrated experience managing software development projects: coordinating multiple developers and stakeholders, owning planning and timelines, managing dependencies, and guiding releases to delivery
• Technical depth to understand and shape architecture decisions, identify technical risks early, and engage in technical discussions with experienced developers
• Strong experience in at least one technology area: Python-based backend development (ideally Django/Django REST Framework or FastAPI) or modern frontend development with React and TypeScript; experience in both areas is a plus
• Understanding of modern SaaS architectures, REST APIs, relational databases, and challenges in developing and operating complex web applications
• Ability to balance product requirements, technical possibilities, and available resources while communicating decisions transparently
• Active use of AI tools or deep engagement with how AI can transform development and project processes; pragmatic evaluation of new tools and ability to establish successful workflows
• Clear, convincing communication skills; comfortable coordinating across Engineering, Product Management, and senior leadership
• Collaborative leadership style, strong organizational skills, and genuine desire to shape how teams work
• Fluency in German and English
• Appreciation for in-person collaboration alongside remote work flexibility
