Staff Forward Deployed Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential data platform organization seeking a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer for their Berlin or Munich office. In this hands-on, customer-facing role, you will work directly with enterprise clients to build and productionize solutions to their data and AI challenges.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Leading impactful customer technical projects by delivering production-grade systems, designing reference architectures, and building custom applications with data ingestion and ML/AI model integration
• Guiding strategic customers through transformational big data projects including end-to-end design, build, and deployment of industry-leading applications
• Working with engagement managers to scope technical delivery work based on customer requirements
• Leading architecture and design decisions, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with both customer needs and platform best practices
• Collaborating with technical teams, project managers, architects, and customer teams to ensure engagement components meet customer needs
• Embedding with customer teams and engaging with stakeholders from technical ICs to executives to deeply understand challenges and deliver measurable impact
• Contributing reusable accelerators, frameworks, and best practices that scale impact across accounts
• Providing product and implementation feedback to support rapid resolution of engagement-specific issues

What We're Looking For

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms and analytics, or software engineering
• Strong coding ability in Python, Scala, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frameworks
• Working knowledge of two or more common cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP) with expertise in at least one
• Deep experience with distributed computing with Apache Spark and knowledge of Spark runtime internals
• Familiarity with CI/CD for production deployments
• Working knowledge of MLOps, ML/AI models, and AI APIs
• Proven experience designing and deploying performant production end-to-end data architectures and applications that combine data pipelines, ML/AI models, and user-facing interfaces
• Experience with technical project delivery—managing scope, timelines, and measurable outcomes while translating complex concepts into actionable solutions
• Strong documentation and whiteboarding skills
• Experience working with enterprise clients and managing conflicts across a broad stakeholder range
• Curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to explore new technologies
• Willingness to travel to customers approximately 20% of the time
• Platform certification in distributed data systems is a plus
