Director, Privacy Legal

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential social platform in their search for a Director, Privacy Legal. Our client is seeking a senior attorney to lead their privacy compliance function and serve as the primary legal subject matter expert for privacy and data protection matters. This is a remote position available to candidates anywhere in the United States.

This role will manage the privacy compliance program, oversee regulatory relationships, and partner with cross-functional teams to implement privacy controls at scale. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about building robust privacy processes in a user-centric organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the legal team's support of a global privacy compliance program across US, EU, and international frameworks
• Implement and maintain privacy policies and processes aligned with industry standard frameworks
• Partner with product and engineering teams to design and integrate privacy controls
• Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on privacy compliance matters
• Serve as lead privacy subject matter expert, ensuring consistent counseling across the organization
• Advise technical teams on investigating potential privacy and security issues to ensure legal compliance
• Act as a strategic legal partner and internal evangelist for privacy-focused approaches
• Manage and mentor legal team members in a dynamic, inclusive environment

What We're Looking For

• Law degree (JD, LLB, LLM, etc.) with active local bar admission; multi-jurisdictional experience preferred
• 12+ years of legal experience at a top-tier firm or in-house, with 5+ years focused on privacy and/or product counseling in-house
• Proven track record implementing and managing privacy compliance programs in fast-paced, product-driven environments
• Deep expertise in global privacy laws and industry guidelines relevant to technology platforms
• Strong legal drafting skills with preference for concise, plain-language communication
• Experience engaging with regulators, particularly in Europe
• Experience managing high-performing legal teams
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills across time zones with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders at all levels
• Proactive, nimble communicator with strong relationship-building abilities
