Staff Product Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization that is transforming how medical professionals communicate and manage patient care across the UK's healthcare system. Our client has built a platform used by the vast majority of primary care practices, and they continue to expand their suite of digital tools including AI-powered clinical documentation, patient triage systems, and appointment scheduling solutions.

As a Staff Product Engineer, you will join a team that prioritizes deep user understanding and end-to-end ownership. This role requires someone who can bridge product thinking with engineering excellence, working directly with clinical staff to solve real problems in healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

• Own features from conception through deployment and ongoing evolution, working closely with Product, Design, and Clinical teams from the earliest stages
• Engage directly with NHS GPs, practice staff, and patients through research sessions and site visits to understand the problems you're solving
• Design system architecture and API boundaries that serve both immediate needs and long-term platform health
• Maintain high quality standards for production code—ensuring reliability, usability, and clinical safety in everything you ship
• Make architectural decisions that balance feature delivery with technical sustainability, improving system health as an integrated part of your work
• Provide constructive challenge when needed and commit fully to team decisions once made
• Experiment with AI tooling to enhance productivity while maintaining critical judgment about what tools can and cannot do

What We're Looking For

• Strong full-stack capabilities—you may be strongest in backend or frontend, but you can follow problems across the entire stack to own complete features
• Proven systems thinking: ability to decompose ambiguous problems, identify trade-offs, and anticipate second-order effects before they become issues
• Comfort with early-stage problem definition and shaping work rather than waiting for fully-specified requirements
• Pragmatic approach to engineering quality—managing technical debt strategically, reviewing AI-generated code critically, and advocating for sound architectural choices under real constraints
• Curiosity about AI tools and practical judgment about when to use them and when human expertise is essential
• Strong expertise in at least one technical domain with the ability to build, debug, and improve production systems effectively
• Ownership mindset: you influence across teams, navigate disagreement constructively, own mistakes, and drive meaningful outcomes
• User-first thinking: you start from the user problem and can determine what to build, what not to build, and why

Technical context: The stack includes C# backend, TypeScript and React frontend, Azure infrastructure, and Python for ML/AI work. Deep expertise in all areas is not required—the ability to learn and follow problems wherever they lead is what matters.

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: £115,000 - £135,000 plus £50,000 in share options

Location: London (Shoreditch), hybrid with 3 days per week in office
