About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential management consultancy with a specialized analytics and cloud engineering practice. Our talent team is seeking a Data Engineer to join their high-performing technical unit that builds production data systems for enterprise clients across Europe. This is a hybrid or remote role based in Hamburg, München, or Düsseldorf.

Our client operates at the intersection of strategy and engineering, delivering data platforms and AI-driven solutions for market-leading organizations. You'll work in agile squads with international colleagues, taking ownership of projects from design through deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Own projects end to end: scope requirements, align stakeholders, and deliver measurable business outcomes
  • Design and implement data architectures for batch and streaming workloads at varying scales
  • Provision and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP to support data platforms
  • Build Python-based ETL/ELT pipelines using orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
  • Work with data lake technologies and optimize OLAP data warehouses and lakehouses
  • Model and store data across SQL and NoSQL databases with a focus on performance and cost optimization
  • Develop web APIs using Python frameworks (FastAPI, Flask) and document them with OpenAPI/Swagger standards
  • Automate deployments using Infrastructure-as-Code and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)

What We're Looking For

  • Passionate data engineer who values both modern technology and engineering craftsmanship
  • Hands-on experience with at least one cloud hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred)
  • Track record building production-grade software systems
  • Strong Python development skills with emphasis on idiomatic, well-tested code
  • Expertise in performance tuning and optimization of relational databases (indexing, sharding, partitioning)
  • Experience with data workflow orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
  • Proficiency with large-scale data processing and modern analytics stacks (Apache Spark, Snowflake, dbt, or similar)
  • Competence with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Excellent German language skills (C1 level) and conversational English
  • Customer-centric and results-driven mindset with willingness to travel occasionally
