About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential aerospace organization seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join their team in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.
As Senior Systems Engineer, you will take technical ownership of complex space missions from development through on-orbit verification. You'll serve as the primary technical lead for both internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring mission requirements are properly defined, validated, and met. Your role bridges technical disciplines and manages system-level integration, budgets, and interfaces.
Responsibilities
- Take overall technical ownership of space and ground systems from development through on-orbit verification
- Lead requirements management including development, validation, verification, and change control
- Lead technical risk management activities: identification, qualification, mitigation, and resolution
- Develop top-level requirements and flow them down to lower levels, collaborating with discipline leads and subject matter experts
- Serve as primary technical point of contact to customers and contractors, advocating for internal technical teams
- Represent customer technical needs and expectations to internal development teams
- Develop working knowledge of satellite platforms, operations systems, and payload integration
- Communicate proactively with program and project managers regarding scope changes, requirements updates, or performance impacts
- Develop, deliver, and maintain mission documentation for internal and external audiences
- Support sales engineering during technical concept development, feasibility assessments, and requirements definition
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- BSc in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent STEM subject, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience in a technical engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Controls, RF Communications) or as a systems engineer for complex integrated systems
- Comprehensive understanding of space systems, concepts of operations, and remote systems operation
Preferred qualifications:
- 3+ years as a space systems engineer working across multiple engineering disciplines
- Experience developing or integrating RF and optical payloads
- Experience with architecture and design of digital systems including ground station networks, data distribution, data processing, and spacecraft data handling
- Experience coordinating or leading diverse technical teams across multiple disciplines and time zones
- Strong interpersonal skills for building client relationships and communicating with cross-functional teams
- Strong comprehension skills to understand complex customer requirements and identify thorough solutions
- Experience in satellite mission design, development, and testing with understanding of major design trades (power budgets, communications systems, data budgets, ground stations, launch loads, EMI/EMC, thermal management)
Additional information: Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required. If needed, appropriate licenses will be arranged by the employer.
