About This Opportunity
We are representing a well-funded autonomous vehicle technology company operating in the aviation sector. Our client is building enterprise-grade autonomy solutions for structured, low-speed environments and has secured Series A backing from leading investors.
We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement behavior planning systems for autonomous operations. You'll own critical decision-making modules that enable vehicles to navigate complex, dynamic scenarios involving multiple agents and strict operational requirements.
This is a remote position based in the United Kingdom, reporting to the Planning Tech Lead within the autonomy engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement advanced behavior planning algorithms for autonomous vehicles operating in structured environments
- Design, write, and maintain efficient and scalable code in C++ and Python
- Architect the decision-making layer that bridges mission-level goals with motion-level execution
- Conduct extensive testing in both simulated environments and real-world scenarios to validate planning algorithms
- Analyze system performance metrics and implement data-driven enhancements
- Collaborate with cross-functional autonomy teams to ensure robust integration of planning systems
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation of algorithms, code, and system architectures
- Tackle edge cases and implement robust handling for multi-agent interaction scenarios
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience in autonomous driving, robotics, or related domains
- Proficiency in modern C++ (C++11/14/17) and object-oriented programming
- Strong Python skills for rapid prototyping and testing
- Deep understanding of behavior planning algorithms including state machines, behavior trees, and probabilistic planning approaches
- Familiarity with path planning algorithms such as A*, RRT, or optimization-based methods
- Strong debugging, profiling, and code optimization capabilities
Preferred:
- PhD in Robotics, AI, Mathematics, or related field with focus on planning, optimization, or control theory
- Expertise in advanced path planning algorithms including D* and Rapidly-exploring Random Trees (RRT)
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques for behavior prediction and planning
- Experience with ROS/ROS2 frameworks
- Track record implementing high-frequency re-planning systems that adapt to dynamic environmental changes
- Experience with low-latency planning algorithms for real-time navigation
- Proficiency in optimization techniques and probabilistic models for decision-making under uncertainty
- Experience building decision-making systems that handle rule-based and learned approaches
