Senior Software Engineer (Processor Software Stack)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential semiconductor organization developing advanced processor technology in Karlsruhe. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work across the full processor software stack—from compilers and mapping tools down to bare-metal firmware and operating systems.

This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of hardware and software, optimizing system-level performance for next-generation silicon. The role requires relocation to Karlsruhe and follows a hybrid schedule (currently 4 days on-site, 1 day remote).

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the software stack including compiler infrastructure, mapping tools, low-level tooling, simulation and debug frameworks
• Write bare-metal, firmware and OS-level software for RISC-V-based systems
• Implement and optimize signal-processing and inference kernels under real-time constraints
• Bring up, test and port software on pre-silicon platforms and production silicon, including low-level hardware validation
• Collaborate closely with hardware design teams in a tight feedback loop
• Contribute to kernel-level optimization including vectorization, memory hierarchy management, and fixed-point arithmetic

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Strong proficiency in C, modern C++ (C++17/20, STL, Boost) and Python
• Solid foundation in algorithms and hardware/software system architecture
• Experience working close to hardware with understanding of system-on-chip design, processor architecture and microarchitecture
• Some familiarity with RTL and hardware design principles
• Experience with agentic programming and working knowledge across multiple domains: compiler development, low-level tooling and simulation, embedded/systems software and real-time constraints, or signal processing and ML inference
• Master's degree (or equivalent experience) plus 10+ years of relevant industry experience
• Willingness to relocate to Karlsruhe, Germany

Nice to Have:

• Experience with parallel and data-flow execution models (SIMT, predicated execution, branch divergence)
• Background in mapping and optimization algorithms, graph algorithms, place-and-route, or EDA tools
• Post-silicon validation and hardware bring-up experience
• Exposure to: RISC-V, LLVM, CUDA, OpenCL, Verilog, Verilator, QEMU, GDB, JTAG, OpenSBI, bootloaders, Linux kernel and device drivers, Zephyr, or Yocto/OpenEmbedded
