Senior Machine Learning Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential aerospace technology organization seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their development team in Gilching, Bayern, Germany. In this role, you will:

• Prepare, select, and curate datasets for machine learning applications on autonomous platforms
• Design, train, and validate deep learning models for production deployment on embedded systems
• Deploy and optimize models on resource-constrained autonomous vehicle hardware
• Build and maintain ML training and inference pipelines to support continuous development
• Collaborate with hardware, testing, production, and operations teams to drive platform autonomy improvements
• Manage large-scale datasets including geospatial, image, and sensor fusion data
• Ensure data quality through annotation workflows and labelling platforms
• Work with GPU clusters and high-performance computing environments
• Apply model optimization techniques including quantization, pruning, and distillation

What We're Looking For

Our client is open to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

ML Engineering (Generalist):

• Proven track record designing and training deep learning models for production use
• Experience with model optimization for resource-constrained environments
• Deep expertise in computer vision architectures or vision-language model architectures

ML Platform Engineering (MLOps):

• Experience building and maintaining ML training and inference pipelines
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with GPU cluster management and high-performance computing environments

Data Engineering (Geospatial & Sensor Fusion):

• Experience managing large-scale datasets including geospatial, image, or sensor data
• Familiarity with autonomous vehicle-generated data types (imagery, LiDAR, telemetry, flight logs)
• Experience with data quality assurance, annotation workflows, and labelling platforms
• Experience with synthetic data generation and simulation

Required qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related engineering discipline
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Rust, C++)
• Passion for solving complex technical challenges in real-world autonomous systems
• Strong communication skills and ability to serve as an internal technical expert
• Self-motivated with ability to drive initiatives independently
• Fluent English communication skills
