Senior Lead Compliance Auditor (Hybrid) – Internal Audit

Wustl is hiring a Senior Lead Compliance Auditor to lead our Internal Audit function at Washington University Medical Campus. This hybrid leadership role drives compliance oversight and audit excellence across our healthcare operations.

Position Summary

As Senior Lead Compliance Auditor, you'll direct the strategic execution of internal audit initiatives, ensuring organizational compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. Your hybrid work arrangement provides flexibility while you report on-site at Washington University Medical Campus to lead audit teams, assess risks, and deliver insights to senior leadership and governing bodies. You'll manage the audit plan, drive stakeholder engagement, and champion internal controls that safeguard patient safety, data integrity, and institutional assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee internal audit operations, including audit planning, execution, and board-level reporting
• Lead audit teams on compliance assessments across clinical, financial, and operational functions
• Design audit procedures and control evaluations aligned with risk management objectives
• Evaluate organizational compliance with healthcare regulations, federal mandates, and accreditation requirements
• Communicate audit findings and risk-based recommendations to the Audit Committee and executive leadership
• Track remediation efforts and verify implementation of corrective actions
• Maintain comprehensive audit documentation and quality assurance standards
• Develop audit strategies that align with institutional priorities and emerging risks

What You Bring

• 10+ years of internal audit, compliance, or healthcare audit experience with 5+ years in a leadership role
• Deep knowledge of healthcare compliance frameworks, including HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, and accreditation standards
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop audit professionals while managing concurrent audit engagements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience designing control assessments and evaluating effectiveness
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to distill complex audit findings for diverse stakeholders
• Professional certification such as CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CPA, or CICA
• Proficiency with audit software, data analytics tools, and audit management systems
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline
