Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend | Germany | Remote

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential observability platform company seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead their Frontend Platform and Navigation engineering squads. This is a fully remote position based in Germany.

In this role, you will be accountable for two distributed engineering teams that shape how users interact with an open-source observability product. You'll lead the Frontend Platform squad, which enables engineering teams to build reliable, high-quality experiences, and the Navigation squad, which helps users find and organize resources efficiently.

Our client operates with a cloud-first approach, using experimentation to learn quickly and bring improvements across their product ecosystem. They invest heavily in developer productivity, including modern AI coding assistants and access to frontier AI models.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop two distributed engineering squads: set clear expectations, coach team members, provide timely feedback, and build a culture of trust and accountability
• Own hiring and team planning across both squads, aligning capacity and skills with product priorities and long-term needs
• Drive discovery with your teams by engaging directly with customers, community members, and internal users to shape roadmaps and priorities
• Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs
• Own end-to-end delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement, surfacing risks early and intervening when commitments are at risk
• Leverage AI tools in management work to synthesize research, inform roadmap decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting
• Lead adoption of AI and automation across engineering workflows, evaluating impact on delivery speed, quality, and operational efficiency
• Set engineering direction with senior engineers for frontend foundations including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, and reliability
• Define engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including validation of AI-assisted work
• Participate in engineering management on-call rotation and drive improvements to reduce recurring disruption

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders
• Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems to evaluate trade-offs and shape architectural decisions
• Proven track record turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results
• Strong product and customer judgment with ability to connect engineering investments to user and business outcomes
• Clear, concise written communication and effectiveness in remote, globally distributed organizations
• Appreciation for open-source development and balancing cloud-first delivery with community needs
• Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems
• Experience leading developer platform teams, including plugin or extension support
• Background with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products
• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations
• Experience working on widely adopted open-source products

Pay

The base compensation range for this role in Germany is EUR 124,571 - EUR 149,485. The position also includes equity through Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed during the interview process.
