Senior Accountant / Buchalter/in (m/w/d) – Standort Herne | 2 Tage Homeoffice

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential multi-entity organization in the Health, Safety & Environment sector. Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to take ownership of complex accounting and financial closing processes. In this role, you will:

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with HGB (German GAAP)
• Manage complex accounting, balance sheet, and consolidation matters across multiple legal entities
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting, regulatory, and quality standards
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and internal finance stakeholders
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced accounting team members
• Analyze and document complex accounting treatments to ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting
• Collaborate closely with the Head of Accounting and central finance functions
• Lead process improvement initiatives focused on standardization, automation, and digitalization of accounting workflows
• Participate in cross-functional finance projects and contribute expertise to ERP and reporting system enhancements

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Five to eight years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in multi-entity or corporate environments
• Completed commercial training, finance-focused degree, or equivalent qualification
• Deep knowledge of HGB accounting principles and financial statement preparation
• Proven track record independently preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
• Experience working with external auditors and tax advisors on complex accounting and compliance matters
• Strong proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and financial reporting tools
• Excellent analytical skills with a quality-driven, process-oriented, and solution-focused approach
• Fluent German (minimum C1 level) required; English skills are advantageous

Preferred experience:

• Certified accountant qualification (Bilanzbuchhalter IHK) or similar professional designation
• Background in mid-sized international or complex organizational structures
• Experience mentoring or developing junior accounting staff
• Track record optimizing and automating accounting and closing processes
• Interest in digital finance transformation and scaling accounting operations in growth environments

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Herne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, with a hybrid arrangement allowing up to two days of remote work per week. The role offers 30 days of annual leave plus additional half-days on December 24th and 31st.
