Lead Analytics Engineer

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in their search for a Lead Analytics Engineer to join their London-based team. Our client is transforming how financial services are delivered to an underserved market segment, and this role sits at the heart of their data strategy.

As Lead Analytics Engineer, you will own the design, delivery, and evolution of critical data products built on GCP and Looker. This position uniquely combines hands-on technical delivery with leadership of an analytics engineering team, setting standards for data modeling, validation, and usage across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve data models across BigQuery and Looker, delivering standardized, scalable solutions including gold and semantic layers
• Ensure data models accurately reflect complex business logic and requirements while driving data quality, validation, and consistency
• Define and implement best practices for analytics engineering including modeling, naming conventions, documentation, and testing
• Lead the GCP and Looker data workstream, managing sprint planning, prioritization, and delivery timelines
• Conduct design and code reviews, serving as the subject matter expert on data structures and behaviors
• Partner with business stakeholders across multiple functions to define data requirements and translate business metrics into structured data models
• Provide technical mentorship to analysts and engineers, supporting workload allocation and delivery across the team
• Lead development of unified data models that enable self-serve analytics and emerging AI-driven use cases
• Build data context including metadata, definitions, and relationships to support organizational analytics goals

What We're Looking For

• Strong SQL and data modeling experience, preferably with BigQuery or similar platforms
• Experience working with BI semantic layers, Looker preferred
• Proven ability to design and deliver scalable data models that support complex business requirements
• Domain expertise in understanding data flows across complex systems, particularly in lending or financial services environments
• Technical leadership experience leading workstreams or projects and mentoring team members
• Translation skills to convert business requirements into technical solutions with a structured, engineering-led approach
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate independently while collaborating across teams
• Strategic thinking to contribute to platform transitions and long-term data architecture initiatives
