Golang Engineering Manager, Commercial Systems

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Golang Engineering Manager to lead Commercial Systems development in the EMEA region. This is a remote role with exceptional growth potential in a globally distributed engineering culture.

Our client operates critical business systems built primarily in Golang, serving enterprise customers worldwide. You'll lead one of two high-impact teams: either Billing (building scalable usage-to-invoice systems with payment integrations) or Livepatch (delivering kernel security patches to production systems without reboots). Both teams work on production services that directly support business operations and customer value.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end accountability for the design, development, and delivery of internal product systems
• Lead and grow a distributed team of software engineers working primarily in Golang
• Develop technical skills and leadership capabilities of direct reports through coaching and mentorship
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, architectural designs, and operational solutions
• Align engineering roadmaps with business needs to maximize organizational impact
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, business operations, and product stakeholders
• Maintain high standards for code quality, system reliability, and engineering excellence

What We're Looking For

• Strong academic background with undergraduate degree in a technical discipline (or compelling alternative path)
• Proven track record of exceeding expectations and delivering outstanding results
• Professional software development experience with Golang, Python, Java, or similar high-level languages
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with strong presentation abilities
• Results-driven mindset with personal accountability for commitments
• Ability to travel internationally twice yearly for team events (up to two weeks each)

Valued but not required:

• Performance engineering or SRE background
• Experience in accounting, sales operations, billing, or business systems domains
• Security-focused development experience
