Software Engineer – Data Infrastructure – Kafka

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking a Software Engineer to join their data infrastructure team. This position focuses on building automation solutions for distributed data platforms, with particular emphasis on event-streaming technologies like Kafka. You'll be working on fault-tolerant, mission-critical systems that power enterprise-scale data operations.

This is a fully remote role available to candidates based in EMEA time zones (Europe, Middle East, and Africa).

Responsibilities

• Develop automation solutions for data platform operations at scale, including fault-tolerant replication, TLS implementation, installation processes, and backup systems
• Write high-quality, idiomatic Python code to build new infrastructure features for distributed data platforms
• Collaborate with distributed teams across multiple time zones to solve complex technical challenges
• Debug issues and engage with open-source communities in a public, professional manner
• Provide domain-specific expertise on data systems to internal teams
• Focus on infrastructure automation rather than data analysis or processing
• Participate in internal and external events requiring international travel 2-4 weeks per year

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven hands-on experience in software development using Python
• Demonstrated experience with distributed systems such as Kafka and Spark
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or related field
• Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times per year for team events

Valued additional experience:

• Operating and managing SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) or NoSQL systems (MongoDB, Redis, ElasticSearch) at a DBA level
• Linux systems administration, package management, and infrastructure operations
• Public cloud platforms or private cloud solutions like OpenStack
• Operating Kubernetes clusters for persistent data services
• Understanding of open-source community dynamics and enterprise needs
