Embedded Linux Software Engineer (m/f/d) – Maritime N3XT

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential maritime technology organization that is developing advanced autonomous vessel systems. Our client is seeking an experienced Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join their specialized engineering team in Gilching, Bayern, Germany.

In this role, you will develop embedded software for autonomous maritime platforms, focusing on control systems, navigation, mission-critical operations, and performance evaluation. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to create innovative naval technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in technical design decisions for new solutions from an embedded software perspective
• Implement, maintain, and optimize software for autopilots, communication systems, navigation, and payload-specific processes
• Integrate new sensors, cameras, and other hardware components into existing embedded environments
• Coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams on integration efforts
• Conduct field testing and evaluation of new integrations
• Support team members with software-related tasks including log analysis and tool development
• Create technical documentation covering interface definitions and architectural decisions

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of experience in Linux software development, preferably in embedded or robotics systems
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ (C++14 or newer) with proven experience developing Linux applications
• Solid understanding of Linux internals, including system services, device trees, and kernel modules
• Experience with cross-compilation tools and build systems such as Yocto or Buildroot
• Hands-on experience with debugging tools (GDB, strace, perf) and log analysis
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and release management
• Strong problem-solving abilities with capacity to debug both software and hardware integration challenges
• Self-motivated with ability to independently manage your area of responsibility
• Curiosity and openness toward new technologies and methodologies
• Excellent communication skills with ability to serve as an internal technical expert
• Professional English language proficiency
