Director of AML & Virtual Asset Compliance

About the Role

We are representing a confidential blockchain security organization in their search for an experienced Director of AML & Virtual Asset Compliance. This is a senior leadership role based in Hong Kong, Singapore, or the USA, reporting directly to executive leadership.

Our client operates at the cutting edge of Web3 security and serves thousands of enterprise clients globally. They need a compliance leader who can bridge traditional financial services and the digital asset ecosystem—someone who understands both bank compliance frameworks and the unique risks of blockchain-based financial activity.

You will serve as a senior subject matter expert on AML and virtual asset compliance, helping strengthen internal compliance capabilities, advising financial institutions and VASPs, and engaging credibly with regulators, law enforcement, clients, and industry partners. This role requires operating at the intersection of regulation, financial crime prevention, blockchain analytics, and commercial strategy.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve AML frameworks, virtual asset compliance strategy, sanctions programs, risk assessments, transaction monitoring, and investigation processes
• Advise financial institutions and VASPs on virtual asset compliance, regulatory expectations, and blockchain-related financial crime risks
• Monitor regulatory developments across jurisdictions and translate them into practical compliance guidance and product requirements
• Where applicable, serve as MLRO or support the designated MLRO on suspicious activity reviews and regulatory reporting
• Partner with product, engineering, and business development teams to embed compliance into commercial operations
• Engage with regulators, law enforcement, and industry stakeholders on behalf of the organization

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Prior experience as an MLRO, Chief Compliance Officer, Head of Financial Crime, or similar senior compliance role
• Experience working across both traditional financial institutions and the virtual asset industry
• Strong knowledge of AML, financial crime, sanctions, transaction monitoring, regulatory compliance and reporting, and virtual asset financial crime risks
• Hands-on experience with blockchain analytics, KYT (Know Your Transaction), wallet screening, or similar on-chain compliance tools and processes
• Strong communication skills suitable for engaging with regulators, executives, and technical teams
• CAMS or equivalent AML qualification

Preferred:

• Experience owning the AML program of a regulated entity
• VASP licensing, regulatory examinations, or remediation experience
• Established relationships across regulators, law enforcement, banks, exchanges, or the virtual asset industry

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $150,000 to $220,000 USD annually for US-based candidates. Compensation for candidates in Hong Kong and Singapore will be determined based on location, experience, and qualifications.
