Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Cost Engineer – Project Controls specialist for our North West England team. This full-time, remote role offers the opportunity to lead financial strategy and cost management across major energy infrastructure projects.

Role Overview

As a Cost Engineer within our Project Controls function, you'll drive financial strategy and commercial performance on complex energy sector initiatives. Working with our North West England-based consulting practice (with full remote flexibility), you'll manage costs from project inception through delivery, keeping stakeholders informed and budgets aligned with commercial objectives.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain robust cost plans, budgets, and forecasts aligned with project scope and schedule
  • Monitor project expenditure in real-time, identify cost variances, and recommend corrective actions to protect project margins
  • Conduct detailed cost analyses on contract variations, claims, and commercial issues
  • Prepare cost reports and analytical dashboards for senior stakeholders and clients
  • Collaborate with project delivery, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure accurate cost data and sound financial decision-making
  • Review contracts and specifications to identify cost drivers and assess risk exposure
  • Support estimating and tendering processes during the pre-contract phase

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in cost engineering, cost management, or project controls within construction or engineering delivery
  • Strong grounding in project delivery methodologies and established cost management principles
  • Proficiency with cost management software platforms and Microsoft Excel at advanced level
  • Experience within the energy sector, power infrastructure, or utilities is highly desirable
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with commercial awareness
  • Clear communicator able to translate financial insights for both technical and commercial audiences
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • Professional qualification (RICS, ICEC, or equivalent) valued, though not essential for early-career candidates
